Notes from the artist
"CLOSE TO HOME"
My work emerges from my concern with "faith": What it is? Where we put it? And how it effects us?
In a cognitive world, these questions are often tackled literally. I attempt to do this work visually.
This series of paintings is part of my quest to answer the specific question "Who am I as a New Zealander?" A declaration for each of us that I see rooted in a personal statement of faith.
Each painting explores a "different" aspect of this question often referred to by its title.
The multiple images in each work are intended to create "a new collective voice" presenting the possibility of further outcomes to this question. The words another entry point to the same.
Throughout this series I have endeavoured to create paintings that are "easy to enter" by being bright and pictorial, yet still containing
further levels of discovery for the patient viewer.
